Hi,
Just thought KDE for Windows may be a good candidate for a PortableApps?
I've installed it on my PC, then copied them to my USB disk. All of its files seems to be contained in one directory but unfortunately, it creates the shortcuts in %USERPROFILE%. Not sure how to get around that.
Anyway, hopefully, PortableApps will be interested to check if it can be made portable.

Might be easier if you let people know that it is found here KDE for Windows also if you review the Launcher manual from PortableApps it will explain how to move files and such.

I´d like
to have KDE for Windows Portable
(especially KOffice, KTorrent, Konqueror, Krusader, K3b, Kopete, KDE Games)
Late last year I investigated this and discussed it with them; making it portable is trivial (KDE_HOME environment variable or similar) but the installation was the tricky part; substantial parts of their KDE installer would need rewriting to pipe to the Platform rather than the start menu. I've had discussions with John about it too, it could be integrated somewhat in the Platform. However, deciding myself currently incapable of doing all that, I asked sar3th about it and he has done some stuff with it (mainly a more detailed study). He may be willing to continue more with it, I'm not certain at this stage.

I rarely use that bastardization of "what" but I find it appropriate here.
KDE as the desktop manager for Linux? Or rather the alternate desktop, since GNOME is the more popular of the two?
Or just all the apps from it? And aside from the games (many of which are cool) what's the point? Solidarity with a Linux computer? Or are these apps really above and beyond their Windows counterparts?
And if it is all the apps, it really should have its own folder/category in the PortableApps menu. This would be the justification for folders/categories.
Forgive my sarcasm; I'm intrigued by this, but a bit skeptical.
Some of the apps are nice. I prefer the KDE taskbar/start menu (it seems kicker is gone in KDE4; I don't know what they call the new one) over the standard Windows taskbar and start menu (I like to have 2 bars, one on top as a menu and quick launch bar and the other on the bottom as a pure taskbar - windows only). I had forgotten about KDE on Windows since it was always in an alpha state, but looking at the website, it seems it's (at least mostly) stable.

You can replace Windows Explorer desktop manager just like you can replace the Linux desktop manager (use Gnome/KDE/Fluxbox etc). I've actually done it with Windows, and while cool, I found it a little unstable since I assume Windows was never meant to have interchangeable managers.
It's an intriguing idea though because then it would truly be a portable environment. You'd certainly freak somebody out if you used their computer and their entire desktop changed before their eyes!
Unfortunately, the taskbar portion of plasma-desktop is broken on Windows.
There are a few alternate shells out there that will do that, though.

KDE and GNOME are desktop managers. They are also platforms for app development (sort of, I guess).
GNOME is what ubuntu ships with default. I dislike it. I'm a KDE fan, but such things usually end in flame wars.

KDE used to be horrible bloatware and it always look too flashy and colorful for my tastes. However, I guess that's changed with more recent versions of it? (i.e. version 4)
I started with KDE 3(.5?) and I really like v4. I can use GNOME, its just not something I like.
