Digg.com applet on news pages lagging for everyone, or just me?

I'm having trouble reading (and posting) comments on news pages due to, I believe, the Digg.com applet which lets you submit the post to Digg or whatever. The page renders up to and including the Facebook Share applet, but it takes forever to load the Digg one. To the tune of 30-60 seconds.

Is there any way we can have the option to disable all of these social icons? That one bothers me due to the load times, and the AddToAny applet has a nasty habit of popping up when it isn't wanted. Really, I think it just pops up when it's mouse-overed, but if it were up to me, it would have a 1.5 second delay, or a delay of at least as long as it takes for it to hide again after the cursor passes it by, which is longer.

I could use Adblock Plus to hide these elements, of course, but I'm whitelisting PortableApps.com, so that option isn't available.

I know John and the others are busy with 2.0 and updating everything, and I don't want to take them away from that, and I'm just as reluctant to block ads since I'm unable to donate. But if anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them.
