Greetings,

We discontinued GIMP Help. It was out of date for quite some time and regular installed GIMP Help didn't even work (that's when we discontinued it and removed all pages). It's easier to use the online help anyway.
It looks like the German page wasn't removed though. I've removed references to it and unpublished the page.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
GIMP has stopped using its internal Help browser. However, it is distributing its help files as HTML files, and even has installation packages that should not impact the portability of Portable GIMP.
A couple of important caveats:
1. The help files are a little over 30 MB installed.
2. GIMP will only use your default browser to display the files.
3. You need to be careful choosing the install directory.
To install GIMP Help files:
- Download the appropriate file from here: http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/stable.html (Choose the appropriate language in the GIMP Help 2 section)
- Run the installer, but don't use the default install location. Install it here:
It will warn you that the directory already exists, choose OK.
If it's done right, you should have your help files for your language in the following directory
I checked out the installer, and it doesn't put anything else except the help files in the right place. It doesn't make any registry entries at all.
EDIT: @JTH: Once the Installer 2.0 is released, I can make this into a proper paf.exe file if you want to post it as an optional add-on, since it just has to dump the files into the right folder.
I made this half-pony, half-monkey monster to please you.
I used the installer in your link and it worked well! And because there is a single installer for every language (I only need German and perhaps English), the download was much faster than the all-in-one-version
So I think it's not really necessary (but useful) to make an extra .paf.exe although the installer from http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/stable.html works. Perhaps it's good to make a note on the Gimp Portable Support FAQ (https://portableapps.com/support/gimp_portable) that you can use the Gimp Help Installer also for Gimp Portable if you select the right folder (X:\PortableApps\GIMPPortable\app\gimp\) instead of the "standard" folder (X:\Programs\GIMP-2\)

Leon
