Sunbird: Portable iTunes Alternative

Hello All,
I've been using Portable Apps for a long time however this is the first post I am making on these forums.

I need an Portable iTunes Alternative program that will work with both mp3s and mp4s. ITunes has updated and deleted all of my information six times already. I lose everything! The music stays in the program but I lose all of my podcasts and all of the videos I have listed as TV shows and any music videos I have are moved to the Movies folder and the track, episode, and title data I spend time filling out disappears.

I have tried Songbird but it won't recognize my iPod (a 30gb iPod video) also Songbird does not allow video files.

I am really getting tired of having to manually adjust thousands of files every time iTunes decides to fry itself.

I like iTunes interface but it's not worth the hassle.

Any assistance or program recommendations you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

You Can't, Unless

Apple has locked out competing products from working with iPods, so you're stuck using iTunes. Songbird was trying to keep pace, but eventually decided their development effort was better used elsewhere. iPods are purposely locked to iTunes so you can't use competing software. Apple products are designed this way.

Some apps have tried to work around the locks, but I'm not as familiar with them.

I put rockbox on my old iPod Mini and now sync it with Songbird. It's an alternative OS for many media players and it works with the Apple 30gb iPod Video. The interface is a bit clunkier and it takes some getting used to. But once done, you can use it with pretty much any media player you want.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Thanks John. I will

Thanks John. I will definitely look into Rockbox. My only issue with Songbird is it doesn't seem to include movies, music videos, and TV shows. I'm looking into CopyTrans Manager but I'll probably need Rockbox for that as well.

Thanks again for your help. I'm still open for other options if anyone has any.
