Corruption loves me, doesn't it?

How do I make sure that files don't become corrupted? Some Fx cache files and a few other random files were corrupted. I ran chkdsk, and that seemed to fix everything, but it's probably because I caught it before it became severe. And because the drive's FS is NTFS. I know there are problems when the drive inserted properly, but I make sure it fits. *sigh*

NTFS is great when the file system is damaged--it's generally always fixable. It's pretty reliable in that respect. As for the corrupted files, are you using safe removal (or at least, attempting it--NTFS doesn't always eject willingly) before pulling the drive? Not using safe removal is the only reason I can think of why files would suddenly become corrupted.

The only time my thumbdrive

The only time my thumbdrive has ever gotten corrupted is when I was running NTFS -- didn't last 3 days -- then I was back to FAT32. Someone decided to log me off my terminal by turning the power off. It was so blitzed, it took me about 20 tries to reformat it. I thought it was a goner!

Anyway, I haven't had a problem (before or) since I dumped NTFS...

Odd.

Usually NTFS is very reliable. Oh well. There always has to be someone who has trouble with anything. Nothing much you can do about it. If FAT32 serves you better, then by all means, use it! Biggrin

Safely Remove Hardware

Always make sure you "Safely Remove Hardware" before taking the drive out of the USB port. This will make sure that there arn't any file streams open.

Nothing VinDSL could have done about it, anyway... someone else pulled his power. I don't imagine he had much of a chance to use Safe Removal...
