Hi all, kinda new here and as do all n00bs, I got a couple questions.
1. I made a Star Trek Theme but I am having difficulty getting the custom Icons to work. How do I remedy this?
2. Also, the only way I can get my custom theme to work is to name it Green (or another of the Default themes) and rename Green to GreenOld. How can I get my theme to show up in the theme choices dialog box?
Thanks in advance,
Spann
Mr. Elchbau has his own page dedicated to theming PA menus. If you are using the latest 2.0 beta of the menu, he has a great tutorial:

As of now, you can't get it to show up on the Options --> Themes, it's not implanted into the current beta yet.
Instead, you have to zip up your theme, and rename it to StarTrek.patheme
Thanks to the both of you. I did notice in the tutorial that there is a place for a personal picture, but no explaination on how to put on there. Any suggestions?
Otherwise, my Star Trek Theme is ready. I don't have a place to post it, but if you email me at spannclann@hotmail.com with the subject line of star trek patheme I will send it to you.
I am no Artist, but I think it came out ok. Also, because I am no artist and the headaches inherent with making themes, I have new found admiration and respect for the people that make themes.

use http://www.mediafire.com/ to store your files. It's free.
and I think you can organize your themes (if you make more) by uploading a picture of the theme as well as the theme file. that way people can "ooooh and Aaaaah" before downloading.

I really like the Lcars one but I would have liked the corners transparent to give it a more rounded look.
Top Left/Right corners to be precise.
I will see what I can do about thoes corners.
Spann
Thanks Spann
I tried doing it myself with Photoshop.
I can get the corners not to show when I view them with Windows Photo Viewer.
But when I use the theme in the menu they still show up as black.
Maybe it's something I am doing wrong.
Good luck with it anyway.
Thank You, Brian.
EDIT:- Here's a link to what it looks like without the black corners ( or should look like ).

Go to the link I posted above for the tutorial. Read the whole tutorial, it's got a lot of excellent tips, including the way to create transparency for rounded corners.
P.S. Use GIMP instead of Photoshop, it's a great app.

I opened the other backgrounds in photoshop and foiund it to be something called "Magneta Pink" (I think thats it,).

I am running into the same problem, either showing up black or magenta. Not sure what he means by "So I try it once again, without anti-aliasing" in the tutorial. I have looked through GIMP and have not found a choice to turn it off.
Would appreciate any help from more experienced GIMP users.
Spann
After you choose a selection tool (like rectangle, ellipse, freehand) there is a checkbox in the tool options for antialiasing. Uncheck this box.
The key to setting an area as transparent is to color it exactly 255, 0, 255 (R,G,B).
If you are off just a little in color, it won't work.
The reason that you need to uncheck antialising is that it is meant to smooth edges by blurring it. That causes the magenta near the edge to be slightly off in color, so any pixel that is not exactly 255,0,255 is not transparent, it shows up.
While PNG supports alpha transparency, the PAM menu does not, so John selected 255,0,255 to be transparent.

Blah, still cannot get it to work >:(
Spann
Thanks for the info.
I selected the corners using magic wand ( fuzzy select in Gimp ) then changed the colour as you suggested R=255 G=0 B=255 then filled in the corners with paintbucket. It worked a treat so thanks a lot.
I tried that too, but it didn't work for me.
Spann
Spann when you colour in the corners they look Pink.
However when you use the theme the corners are transparent.
Not for me, I see them as pink in the theme too. Any suggestions?
Spann
Even if it's off by a little, like 255,1,255 or 254,0,255, it won't work. That's why you turn off antialiasing, since that smooths by blending colors at the edge, and the blended magenta is no longer 255,0,255.

can you send me the background png file so I can look at it? I have done everything you have said and it is not working for me. my email is in a post above.

Figured out the problem I was having. LCARS 2.0 is up with rounded top corners.
Also I realized I had forgotten to include the Klingon language file with the original zip, so I have updated that file as well.
Hope y'all like the updates. If you have any suggestions let me know.
Spann
Updated my themes to include the new beta "Manage Apps" Icon.
However, I cannot find the location in the language files to edit the "Manage Apps" to read in Klingon. If anyone knows where it is please let me know.
Spann
The problem is now Spann that after getting it right the theme does not work correctly with the new Beta.
At least on my PC it doesn't.
I have noticed that too. I think the PATheme.ini file needs to be altered somehow, just not sure on the specifics. However; if you switch to the LCARS theme, and it won't look right, exit the Portable Apps Menu then reboot it, and it will show pretty much as intended. At least until I figure it all out.
Spann
Cheers Spann I'll give it a try.
EDIT:- Just tried it and it works, Thanks.
