VLC: Not really closed when closed

Hi

After having updated to 1.1, there's this icon in the systray (while it's set NOT to display that icon in vlc preferences, always worked with 1.0), which remains there after i close vlc.
I have to click on this icon, then vlc really closes.
I don't get it Sad

I also had to reset preferences, cos i didn't have osd anymore (volume indications etc)

Thanks

Hm

I had something similar happen to me where the icon remained in the tray after I closed VLC but it disappeared some 5 seconds later. Sometimes I had to move my mouse to the tray in order to make it go away.
But now, Vlc closes when I tell it to.
What system are you on?

yeah, what you describe

yeah, what you describe happnes often here, with a lot of apps (i think all of them when i think of it, always behaved this way, including usb keys etc)
But I mean that vlc is still in the process list, and i have to click that tray icon, to get rid of the process...
Im on xp sp3 100% up to date.

Thanks

the way it works

Some of this "lack of response" or "being slow" or whatever you want to call it is due to the limited speeds of usb drives so there is nothing anyone can do about it. You could buy a faster drive though.
But the thing you described here where VLC doesnt close at first is something I never experienced before.

same thing here

I get the same thing here, checked the VLC site and there's a forum thread there where a bunch of people are reporting the same thing since 1.1.0, so it appears to be a problem with VLC itself and not the portable version.

http://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=78337

It appears that if you try to close VLC while it is inactive (such as after video is done playing) it leaves the process running, but if you close while the video is playing it closes okay.
