Thunderbird stopped downloading emails

For some reason Thunderbird all the sudden stopped downloading new emails from my accounts. I have for accounts and they stopped downloading all at once. I have tried downloading from each account individually with no luck. I do use my blackberry to view emails, but its not erasing them and all the new emails that I'm getting are still on my individual accounts online. What's causing this and how do I fix it?

Portable ?

Does this only occur when you use TBP or does it occur in the fully installed version as well ?

Also, additional information would be useful:
OS and version, XP, vista, 7
Version of TBP 2.x, 3.x ?

Things have got to get better, they can't get worse, or can they?

I never used the fully

I never used the fully installed version. I dont really want to get into installing a new full version of TB just to test it. Do you need me to do that?
I am running XP sp 3 on a tablet pc
Thunderbird portable version 3.1

It was working fine for a while and then just stopped.

Did you happen to upgrade the two webmail extensions?

My Thunderbird broke when I did that, and luckily I still had a copy of the old versions.

what connection

to internet?

At one time, we encountered sudden break down of all mail connections. Later we found out, this was caused by remote firmware update to the dls modem/firewall by the manufacturer. Since this time we had to use SSL connections for any external mail traffic.
