Themer

I was wondering if there are any plans in the future for a theme developing program. I think it would be nice to have an app that lets you customize the ini file and preview the theme you are currently creating. It could also set up the files you need to create to make your own themes and allow you to compress and save as a .patheme file. Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this but I thought that with a new theming system coming out in 2.0 this would be a great way to take advantage of it.

Wait for 2.0

First of all, it's best by a long way to wait for 2.0. Then you'll at least be able to see what you're working with. You may even find such a thing is just not necessary.

How To...

You can do that. If you don't have photoshop or any other image editing software, download Gimp Portable.

Then, go to "X:\Portableapps\portableapps.com\app\defaultdata\themes\"
You will find a folder called "template". Copy this to the most convenient location.

Edit all the images to the desired look. Then open up PAtheme.ini
It will look like the following:

[PortableApps.comTheme]
PortableApps.comThemeVersion=2.0
PortableApps.comThemeType=Simple

[ThemeDetails]
Name=PortableApps.com Red
Version=2.0
Author=PortableApps.com
URL=https://portableapps.com/

[ButtonApplications]
FontColor=000000
IconTransparentColor=FFFFFF
DividerColor=C0C0C0

[ButtonFolders]
FontColor=FFFFFF
;CCCCCC

[DriveSpace]
FontColor=FFFFFF
FontShadowColor=888888
StretchImage=true

Change all these to the desired format.
Copy the contents of the new template file into a .zip file with the name of the theme. Once it is all copied, rename the whatever.zip to whatever.patheme
You will find this works.

I know

I realize that all of this can be done manually but I was thinking this would make it a lot easier for the non technical user to make themes. I would just be more convenient and straightforward than editing everything manually. I find it cumbersome to open all those different windows and then have to load up the menu and reload the skin to view small changes. I will have to see what 2.0 is really like and see if this is necessary. I would make this myself but I only know Java and not enough to do advanced stuff like zipping files. I also don't know how to emulate the layout engine of the menu to make a preview. I will wait and see how things go.

Thanks
