Multiple Calendars causes Master Password to be requested Multiple Times

I set up 6 different Google calendars in Thunderbird v3.0.4. When I then restarted Thunderbird, the Master Password was requested for Thunderbird itself (Email), and then for each Calendar - 7 times in all. I have the Google Calendar provider installed.

I then removed several calendars, and the number of prompts decreased.

know i is confusing

but those 'master password' belong to cryptographic module, each time you want call up such service you have to enter the pw again. Each of the calendars is different one and you need kind of authenticate the usage of it.

It is unfortunate that it is called this way, but if the crypto module should work properly, this is needed.

Interesting

Is this similar to the way that Firefox requests the master password for each tab open that needs it?

It's very annoying, and so I either choose not to remember tabs or make sure I close all but one tab.

in TB

this asking for 'master password' has actually not much common with the actual master password for the profile if there is one set. If you read correctly the box, it says it wants a master password for crypto module. Therefore it can be clicked off in most cases or bypassed certainly with some simple extensions. It will deal with all kinds of keys including session keys for this and that.

Yes

Thats a bug? in Thunderbird. Thats why I dont have Thunderbird update them on startup.
Same with Firefox: When I open multiple tabs which need passwords, it asks me multiple times.

Addon to "fix" this

Take a look at StartupMaster ( https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/9808/ ), which is specifically designed to work around exactly this issue.

TB Add-On - StartupMaster

Thanks Jimbo,

That seems to resolve the issue, but I still think it maybe should be fixed in TB itself.

whole security module

in the current TB is broken, works only half, and will need to be replaced at some time, until that, only click it off or use the extension.

Thank You!

Worked a treat - thank you for posting this - sorted out multiple requests for TBird, ReminderFox and Provider for Google Calendar. Cheers!
