I'm sorry - another question:
I like to have the player together with the video files on CD/DVD (VLC Portable Live).
I prepared all on hard disk and everthing worked well. But since i burned this all together to DVD VLCPortable fails to start wo/ a note.
I think VLC needs write access to the config directory.
Is there a way to pass something like "SettingsDirectory=%TEMP%\cfg\VLC" to VLCPortable.exe at startup?
Thanks in advance!
VLC Portable has no "Live CD" mode and none is planned at present. Live versions of some apps exist but they weren't really used, especially as RO media use has been decreasing drastically as flash drive costs have fallen. We'd originally intended to support live versions across most popular apps but as the writable optical media market is beginning to die and more and more computers are shipping with no optical media drives built-in at all, the decision was made not to expend additional resources on it.
You could look at the code yourself if you'd like. Firefox, for instance, has a live mode that should still work for a base.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Thanks John!
You might like to remove the section
Running From CD (VLC Portable Live)
Support for running from a CD is built into VLC Portable. Just extract it to a local drive and ...
from Running from CD (VLC Portable Live) then.
I removed it. Basically it used to work but it looks like VLC itself doesn't like its settings files being read-only anymore (it used to just work).

Using the settings described here it seems to be possible to create VLC Live CDs again!
Looking forward to VLCP 1.1.4.
