will we ever get our own portable desktop built in with portable apps?

Yes, I'm finalizing it in eXpresso. Just needs a couple more bug fixes.

I'm awaiting permission from the author to use a utility that will allow me to save and restore desktop positions. If he doesn't reply in 3 days, I'll just use the online installer.
