I have noticed there is an Autorun.inf file in the root directory. Does it mean the StartPortableApps.exe should start automatically when the USB stick is inserted in a Windows system? It doesn't seem to be doing it at present when I inserted in my Windows 7 system. What could be the problem?

Windows 7 has disabled automatic running of programs from external devices. There's nothing we can do about that at all. However, you can get it to autorun on a particular machine by installing this on the host computer.
(Note: you'll also find you get answers faster if you search for them first - in this instance, just searching for autorun reveals a number of threads asking about it, and the solution I mentioned at the top of the list.)
