Hello,
I have the latest TB 3.1.3 and just installed lightning 1.0b2. I click add new event, fill in the details and click save and close but it does not appear on the calendar anywhere. Nor do Tasks save. I tried reinstalling to no avail.
Thoughts?
one has to somehow fill in some time info too, otherwise it will not produce some valid event. And the time has to be first an hr selected and then some minutes too. Soemehow just filling in top name of the vent will not produce any valid event and it will not save it properly.

My apologies. I did fill in a time and have the same result. it is not saving. even as an all day event it isn't saving.
in fact with the tasks it is so that they will be only in the task tab and not visible in calendar. BUt the events, should be visible just after you save them in the calendar stright away, if not, right, they are not saved.
But if you open a month view let say, just see the whole moths in fron t of you, event view I mean.
Then just right click on the day, select new event, then just click on the whole day and save. (do not close!)
The event time dialog should close then by itself and there should be small (blue) bar in the particular day.
Or have you this all on some read only media? Or in some places on a hard drive needing some admin rights to write to it?

I have it on my 32bg mushkin flash drive which I use as a development environment. I use TB and uedit pro and such with no issues.
I just tried again. I filled out every field. there are no error messages that pop up. it does not save whether it's a future event or a current day one. Is there a debug mode I can turn on to see what';s going on? or logging?
when you click on the safe icon?
Does the dialog close itself or does it still remain open?
I feel the whole lightning is kind of confusing, partly it behaves completely different then the one in version 2x.
But at least events, so fat I managed to have saved finally well. That tasks and events are in two separate views, well have no idea what is meant by that.

i click save & close and it closes. nothing unusual seems to happen.
where should the data be being saved? maybe I can find that particular folder and check permissions.
so the dialog behave so far correct, but either it does not save it really or it is not able to recover the saved later.
x:\PortableApps\ThunderbirdPortable\Data\profile\calendar-data
well the profile folder is where all belongs. In fact the data should be there and if you modify something the file should change or be updated or so.
The file itself i not really human readable, but still you can try to open it with some text editor and see the contents roughly. So if you make an entry with particular name, you might be able to find it with the search function of the text editor for example. But better do not make any changes there
If all that fails, I would remove the extension completely and reinstall it, then try again.

Thanks for that info. I checked that location and there is an sqllite file in there. it was at 36k. the read only bit was sent so i turned it off and created an event.
I saved the event, the file went to 37k but did not show up so it looks like it is saving but not showing up.
I have already reinstalled before.
i just checked the sqllite and it is saving the data. i see all my records. i deleted the file and restarted the program. it recreated the file i added an event. same result.
UPDATE:
I restarted the program again. this time I saved the event. it did show up but i had to click the calendar check box int he left pane. possibly i missed this earlier. it seems odd you would have to turn on a calendar instead of having it default on and the ability to turn it off. but....seems to work now so:)
thanks!
yes I forget this one, they seem to want make it all so perfect, not only keep all sorts of classes of events and tasks, but also different calendars. Have no idea as how many calendars you may create, but definitely more then one and as a result you need to tell the lightning which of them you wish to use at the moment.
OK, I use one only, I have only scalar of time and its value is advancing every second....
OK, will see one day when reaching some other time scale by doppler effect, sure I will need the second calendar for that time scale.
Rule: To have a watch does not automatically mean you have also time.

I seem to be having the same problem as described in https://portableapps.com/node/24926 . I bring up a New Event dialog box, fill it all in and then try to save it and nothing happens. Nothing shows up in my calendar, but no error messages are generated either.
I've tried all the things suggested in the previous thread with no luck. There is one difference I've observed. My local.sqlite file does not seem to be updating. The size stays the same (79KB) after I try to save the new event. The Date Modified time stamp on that file updated about a half hour ago, but I don't know what triggered that. I've tried repeating everything I've done so far to see what updates the time stamp, but so far, nothing I've tried has updated the Date Modified.
All my files and folders from Profile on down have the read-only bit clear. The local.sqlite file has the Archive bit set.
Any suggestions?
