Shutterfly.com plug-in crashes Portable Firefox, but not Firefox itself?

I signed up for Shutterfly's photo service - I have friends that rave about the service, and it all seems good so far. The problem is that Shutterfly's plug-in for mass uploading of pictures crashes my Firefox Portable. They specifically work with Firefox and have had no similar problems there.

My question:

With all the users of Firefox Portable, is anyone else successfully using Shutterfly? [ie: is it a problem specific to my computer?]

Is there a way I get someone else to try Shutterfly and see if they can duplicate this error?

If it is a real problem and not just me, does anyone have advice I can pass on to Shutterly's tech people so they can modify their plug in to also work with Firefox Portable?

This is part of the message I got back from their tech support:

I must say that this is the first time I've heard of Portable Firefox, but now that I've done some research into it, I think I can say pretty much for sure that it is specifically this version that doesn't work with our plugin. Our plugin not only installs as a plugin within the Firefox folders, but also installs a file into the Operating System as well, and it requires that file be there in order for the plugin to work. One thing that might work is if you kept a copy of the executable installer for the plugin on the flash drive, and simply installed it on each computer you were using at the time.

I have filed a bug on this issue for our Engineering and IOPS teams to take a look at, but I would expect it to take a while before I can get any sort of testing or development done. Your best bet, however, is to just stick with a standard installation of Firefox and a standard installation of our plugin for best results. If I find anything else out about this, I will let you know, and if you find out something or figure something out, let us know, I'm sure the Engineers would love to hear it. :0)~

We hope this information has been helpful to you. If you have any further questions or comments, please feel free to ask. We always love to hear from our customers!

Shutterfly is not portable

The Shutterfly plugin is not portable and will not work in Firefox Portable. Though there is a stub in the plugins folder in FF, as they mentioned, it's actually a full program installed on the local machine. Thus, it's not portable.

They could modify the stub (ie the actually plugin bit) to not error out when the app isn't installed. Then, even though not portable, it would at least be portable friendly (you could keep it installed in FF Portable all the time and use it when on a machine that had the Shutterfly app).

Thanks for this reply, John.

Thanks for this reply, John. I will pass this back to their tech people and hopefully they will do just that!

(Firefox Portable is a brilliant application, btw - have used nothing but since I discovered it several generations ago. Thank you!)

Have em contact me...

If they're curious about having a portable version of the plugin that would work with Firefox Portable, have em drop me a note. I can give them some pointers.
