SMPlayer Portable 0.6.9 Question

Since I have never used this program before, I decided to try it out in the portable format.

I downloaded and installed both it and the SMPlayer Codecs add-on successfully; however, when I tried to play an audio CD from the Open menu, that option is greyed out.

Now, am I missing something or are you only able to play video files with this player?

Please, do tell.

Thanks in advance for any and all assistance.

Thanks Zach. I set the

Thanks Zach.

I set the drive(s) both manually and using the scan for CD/DVD drives option and it's still greyed out.

FWIW, I'm using Win XP Home SP3.

I have the same problem

SMPlayer Portable 0.6.9 (with the SMPlayer codecs installed) has "Audio CD" disabled (greyed-out) in the "Open" menu on my Windows 7 system.

The correct drive letter has been selected and SMPlayer was restarted but I am still unable to select "Audio CD" from the "Open" menu.

no audio CD

Unfortunately, there's no audio CD available on Windows.

From the FAQ.

Under Windows it's not possible to play audio CDs yet.

From the User Manual:

Note: it seems there are no mplayer builds with support for audio CDs so this option is disabled under Windows. If you want to try anyway, you can enable this option by editing the smplayer config file (C:\Documents and Settings\your_username\.smplayer\smplayer.ini) and setting to true the option enable_audiocd_on_windows.

If you want to try, the file to edit is "SMPlayerPortable\Data\settings\smplayer.ini".

Thanks for the clarification

It is a shame that this limitation is not mentioned here:

Thanks for the info

Thanks for the info prapper!

I tried editing the file you suggested, but the only thing this did was to cause the Audio CD option under the Open menu to no longer be greyed out. Naturally, as you point out, since "under Windows it's not possible to play audio CDs" then I was unable to play any CDs. Sad

Now this may seem like a ridiculous question, and perhaps the answer is not so straightforward and/or simple, but why are there no mplayer builds with support for audio CDs under Windows?

And I completely agree with you xuesheng, it is a shame that this limitation is not mentioned on the SMPlayer Portable page.

So, I guess it's back to my old tried and true and preferred "free and open source cross-platform multimedia player and framework that plays most multimedia files as well as DVD, Audio CD, VCD, and various streaming protocols": VLC Media Player. Smile
