Portable Apps -- A Web Development Suite

Hi guys,

Great site, great software.

I don't know if its been published before, but I was looking for a "Web Development" Suite of Portable Apps ... so I could work on things away from home.

I cobbled together a few of my favourites, and loaded up portable Firefox with my favourite web development extensions as well.

If you're interested in a copy, you can pick up a copy ---.

Could you be more specific

Could you be more specific as to what it is you're sharing. (extensions, proggies?)
If it's something I can use I thank you, but I prefer to know before I D/L.

Extensions and Firefox Portable

Note sure if you're installing them by default or not... but if you are, you have to stop. No modifications can be made to Firefox (portable or not) and then redistributed without Mozilla's permission (no extensions, themes, bookmarks, etc. You can include the extensions in the download as XPIs with info on how to install them, but you can not pre-install them into Firefox Portable.

Fair enough ... ver 0.2 will be out soon, then Wink

I'll probably add a page full of links to extensions that can be installed.

* ColorZilla 0.8.2
* Aardvark 1.1
* Measureit 0.3.5
* Firebug 0.4
* IE Tab 1.0.9.5
* Screengrab 0.7
* LoremIpsum Content Generator 0.4.2
* Greasemonkey 0.6.5.20060727
* UserAgent Switcher 0.6.8

One other thing - self promotion

Unless all of the apps in your suite are open source, you can't self-promote it in the PortableApps.com forums. There is a strict "no self promotion" rule here. The only exception is for open source software releases... and even then, you can only announce the release, not promote your site... and you can only make a maximum of 2 posts a month as a group (whoever else is with your company/team).

As you're including closed source proprietary apps in your package (PSPad, fsCapture, uTorrent), you can not self-promote this package on this site.

The point is moot anyway, John, since he also can't legally distribute them, unless their EULAs say otherwise. I doubt they do, though.

PSPad

PSPad is all I use for web development. It features an amazing FTP interface.

I changed

to Notepad++. I didn't need the FTP interface with FileZilla. Plus, it wasn't open source.

LMAO!

If you have to ask... no one here is going to answer that. This is a straight laced site. If you don't know the answer to your own question, thenmay i suggest a google search and then keep looking. If it can be found in Google, then it is already monitored.

If your responding to me. My

If your responding to me. My statement was just being a smartass. I think the rules they have here about freeware is kind of stupid. No freeware open source company are going to do anything about makeing a portable app. The only reason a freeware or opensource company would try to do something is if you used thier product or source and tried to make a profit from it. Big companys like Adobe and Microsoft cant do much about thier products being on warez sites. They have lost tons of money and cant do shit. Why would you think that some freeware / open source company would even try to go after someone for makeing thier FREE app portable.

First off, my apologies for not reading the sarcasm that was not clearly evidant in your post. Secondly, authors of applications that do not state that it can be re-distributed have all the legal right to say to remove it. Whether they do or not is completely up to them. It is just highly advisable to get the authors permission before modifying there code to do what you want that is outside the scope of the original code. It is a CYA for the project to have the authors blessing to do this. If the license they are using allows a third party to re-distribute without prior consent there is no issue as the license allows it. If the EULA does not contain that verbage, then the authors permission must be granted.

Example of proper usage...

You can not re-distribute MAME (Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator) in an way or shape using the MAME name and logo in a purchaseable product. There are extremely few in number that actually have the persmission of the MAME creators to use the MAME name and logo in there sales pamphlets. If you had a set of MAME ROMS and tried to sell them online at like EBay with MAME emulator as well, you would be in violation.

You have the right to remain silent. Anything you do or say will be exaggerated or mis-quoted and used against you.
