uTorrent uses settings in App folder not Data.

uTorrent uses the settings in C:\PortableApps\uTorrentPortable\App\utorrent
instead of C:\PortableApps\uTorrentPortable\Data\settings

is this by design ? and what's the reason behind it ??

Crash

Did you crash at some point? uTorrent can only use the settings in its own directory, so the launcher moves them back and forth between C:\PortableApps\uTorrentPortable\App\utorrent and C:\PortableApps\uTorrentPortable\Data\settings. If you delete your settings in app\utorrent (or move them to data\settings) it should work as expected again.

Almost immune

Because it uses the PortableApps.com Launcher, it's almost immune to launcher crashes (though I've never seen one) or power failures, anyway. I presume the user has observed it while it's running? If not, perhaps something has gone wrong.

It Doesn't

uTorrent doesn't use PAL. It's a custom launcher with an uber-custom text replace routine in it.

Ah...

Not sure why I had the impression it was using PAL. I don't have it on my list of apps using PAL...

Ignore me Biggrin

that what it sez in the

that what it sez in the logger:
"[2010-10-22 20:45:59] NOTE: Settings file found in directory of executable; using that."

I also experimented with "ipfilter.dat", when placing it in "Data" it's not loaded, when placing it in "App" it loads:
"[2010-10-22 20:46:00] Loaded ipfilter.dat (225832 entries)"

so obviously uTorrent uses the files in "App" folder.
does this mean I lose settings every update ?

p.s. my PC never crashes (new PC), but we had 2 electric outages last week.

Data\settings

It's supposed to use the settings files in the executable folder, the launcher moves them there, and back to the Data\settings ('Data\settings', and not just 'Data') folder on exit. Please check if the launcher moves the files to the Data\settings folder when uTorrent is not running. (Hmm, I remember an issue with PAL, where it looses all settings whenever the user has the specific (Data\settings) folder opened when PAL is moving the files. Although uTorrents launcher isn't PAL, be carefull anyway).

And check if there aren't any doubles, e.g. the same settings files located in the directory of the executable (App\uTorrent) and in Data\settings. It could potentially stop the launcher moving the files up'n down.

Same for ipfilter.dat, it should be placed in the Data\settings folder, then again the launcher takes care of moving it to the directory of the executable !
