Security Error while launching in Win7 & Vista

I recently installed TB Portable 3.1.6 on a portable USB drive. The transfer of static TB to the portable went fine, and it runs as expected on Win-XP.
However, when I take the drive to either a Vista or Win7 system (I've tried both, on both x32 & x64 based PCs), I get a popup window during the startup with the following message:

"Could not initialize the application's security component. The most likely cause is problems with files in your application's profile directory. Please check that this directory has no read/write restrictions and your hard disk is not full or close to full. It is recommended that you exit the application and fix the problem. If you continue to use this session, you might see incorrect application behaviour when accessing security features."

Since the application operates successfully under XP, and TB is installed in its own partition on the USB drive, with the mail folders & data on a second partition on the same drive, neither of which is more than about 5% occupied, I don't know what to correct or even what to check.

Suggestions anyone?

Permissions?

If the drive is formatted as NTFS, permissions could be a problem.

Security Warning

The portable drive is a USB attached Western Digital rotating media, pocket sized HD, 320 GBytes. It is NOT a flash drive.

It is partitioned (using EASEUS Partition Manager) into two partition: 30 GB and the remainder.

Initially, using locally installed TB under WinXP, I had configured TB to reference all folders & data on the 30 GB partition, defined as an M-disk. It has been working for several weeks.

I decided to use the second partition as a repository for portable S/W, the first being Portable Thunderbird. I successfully installed the latest version on the 2nd partition (P-disk), and am currently able to use it under the WinXP.

When I obtained the drive, and partitioned it, I set both partitions to use NTFS.

The only problem seems to be if I attach the drive to Vista or Win7 and attempt to start Portable Thunderbird from that 2nd partition, which I can do successfully when under WinXP.

Correct

Windows Vista/7 treats removable NTFS drives very differently from Windows XP (some would argue they treat it incorrectly). To fix this, you'll need to right-click on the drive, select permissions and go through and give "Everyone" full permissions on the whole drive.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Security Alarm -- Solved!

John,

You were absolutely correct! I fixed the security permissions while under XP, then booted into Win7, and everything works perfectly!

Many thanks.
