how to change the theme..

If you downloaded the version 1.6.1 of the Platform, it doesn't have an elegant way of changing themes.
Version 2.0 beta 5 has a built-in theme switcher, which can be accessed from Options>Theme - that brings up a long list of built-in themes that you can choose.

I prefer the 2.0b5 version specifically because it supports themes.

If you are using 1.6.1, and you don't upgrade to 2.0b5, changing themes is a biut trickier:
Browse to X:\PortableApps\PortableApps.com\App\DefaultData\Themes. You should see subfolders of about half a dozen themes, including one called Default.
Make a backup copy of the Default subfolder.
Now open up the folder of the theme you want, e.g. Silver. Copy the CONTENTS of the Silver folder into the Default folder, overwriting what was already there. Don't touch the menu_icons folder. Restart the menu and you should have the Silver Theme applied.

Yeah, it's a PITA, which is why I use 2.0b5...

Right there

It's right there in the baner above the page content... "Help test the PA.c Platform 2.0 Beta 5 + PA.c Updater".

Search would do just as well.

Can't

Theme support for 1.6.1 is limited and won't be worked on; any themes being developed should be being developed for 2.0.

If themes are your thing

You definitely should go ahead and upgrade to 2.0b5. There in NO advantage to staying with 1.6.1.
Don't let the word beta stop you, the 2.0b5 version is as stable as the 1.6.1, and has much better features by far.

Another way

There is another way to change you're theme, go to X:\PortableApps\PortableApps.com\Data
there you will find a file with the name PortableAppsMenu
In that find the line:
Theme=Default
Just edit that to the theme you want, like if you want the blue theme youll replace the above line with:
Theme=Blue

Youll find all the avalible theme's in the folder X:\PortableApps\PortableApps.com\App\DefaultData\Themes

The best part of this is that you won't have to make backups that take up space Smile

Thanks - a couple of additional comments

The reason I hadn't posted this solution is that it seemed to not work consistently.
After playing with it for a bit more, there are a few things that I'd like to add:

1. This WON'T work unless you EXIT the menu before you change the file. If the menu is open, it will overwrite the changes. When you restart the menu, it should reflect the new theme, but you need to exit the menu again to change it again.

2. The file name is actually X:\PortableApps\PortableApps.com\Data\PortableAppsMenu.ini*

* Windows has this stupid default setting where it hides the extension for known file types, which is why stepie22 does not see the ini extension.

Thank you! Another additional comment

I thought this trick would work for me too when I found this ini file myself.
But it doesn't work for me, without copying the extra .png files and menu icons to every theme directory.

After doing that it's very easy to change the themes this way.
Thanks! Smile
