Portable Gimp Errors (EXPERIMENTAL) build

The following errors occur on my machine when attempting to load portable gimp.

svg.exe - Entry Point Not Found
The procedure entry point __xmlGenericError could not be located in the dynamic link library libxml2.dll

helpbrowser.exe - Entry Point Not Found
The procedure entry point xmlSAX2Characters could not be located in the dynamic link library libxml2.dll

Error
**ERROR**: file gspawn-win32-helper.c: line 103 (WinMain): assertion failed: (__argc >= ARG_COUNT)
aborting...

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!
Program: ...eGIMP\gimp\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins\gspawn-win32-helper.exe
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.

gimp then opens and appears to be functioning, however once I am done editing the picture and want to save it gives me another error about pango something or other.

The machine is Windows XP Home SP2.
I've so far not installed anything on it but it does come with some preloaded software for the dvdrw and some multimedia stuff. It did have Adobe Acrobat Reader on it, but I've uninstalled that.

I have not, and don't intend to install GTK on this system. I'm hoping to go completely portable software eventually, and I would very much like to have the gimp among the programs that are available.

After doing a search for xmlparse.dll it appears that Acer Arcade (the cheesy mltimedia software for acer laptops) has a file called this as well. Tried renaming them to no avail.

This sounds like the GTK issue that plagues both Portable Gimp and Portable Gaim. It's a version conflict between the version of GTK on your computer (xmlparse.dll, as far as I know, is part of GTK) and the version in Portable Gimp. Search around the forums--there's various solutions related to copying around GTK files in the PGimp directory structure that may help.

Be aware that even if you didn't install GTK on your computer, another piece of software (like the bundled stuff that comes with your computer) may have.

The question I have now for

The question I have now for this is why is the portable version of gimp looking anywhere other than in it's own folders for this file, which should not be on an install of windows xp if gtk or other apps that use gkt have not been installed. Why is there a conflict, it should not be trying to look elsewhere for these files.

Because it does

Windows itself checks SYSTEM32 before the rest of the path. There's nothing you can do about that.

That said, as I've mentioned in the other threads, the current GIMP 2.2.12 Pre-Release fixes most of these issues. Please try it.

Trying the new release.

Trying the new release. We'll see how it goes.

At an XP prerelease conference a couple years back I remember being told by the MS guys that there's some way for xp to deal with conflicting dll versions. Supposedly it has some place that when it has programs that need different versions of a dll it can keep both versions and simply route each of them to the correct version, but I don't remember off hand exactly how this is supposed to be done. I'll do a search and see if I can find out how to get windows to do this. I'll be trying the 2.2.12 as soon as it finishes downloading. "crosses finger" Even though I've managed to get ahold of a copy of the photoshop which has been made semiportable, I'd much rather resort to open source when available to my specific needs.

Hmmm

If you mean you are trying it now... cool... please post your thoughts in the pre-release thread.

If you mean you encountered this issue with the pre-release, please post about it in that thread. The main Portable GIMP forum is only for released versions.
