KeePass doesn't seem to do anything useful!

Hi people
I don't know how to use KeePass.
I put a Master Password in, added a website, and re-opened my PortableApps platform but the browser doesn't seem to benefit from the password and everything on my USB drive is still unsecured.
I had hoped my whole USB drive would become inaccessible except by password.

I tried to use live chat but the gobbledegook was too much for me. All I got was a screenful of some kind of code. Maybe I need an IRC client, whatever that is, but I'm getting sick of trying stuff that leads me into yet more and more unresolvable questions.

A shame that it seems to be several weeks between posts on this forum!

Passwords

Keepass is a secure vault for passwords. It does not encrypt/secure your USB drive.
It can be configured to post passwords and username automatically to a webpage but I never tried that. I always open it, select an entry, copy the username and the password to the login form and close Keepass. So its very useful for me.

None

Troll or not, I'll answer just the same:

Between John and Simeon they pretty much have it covered. Keepass is a password manager not a drive/folder encryption tool. The purpose of Keepass is to prevent the need for you to store all your web account usernames and password directly in your browser, thus if someone had access to your computer they would instantly have access to all your Internet accounts.

@Simeon, I use the autocomplete all the time, it works very well except on one or two sites where it either doesn't recognize the site at all, or the site requires a more complex login sequence (such as my bank). In both cases, using a custom autocomplete sequence will usually work just fine.

For folder/drive encryption to secure all of your files use TrueCrypt or OTFE.

Autocomplete?

This sounds interesting! I use KP since several years (IE7,8; FF3,4). NEVER KP autocomplete everything..!?!?!!! IF so, IE /FF do it by themselves (what is still unsecure Sad ). How to set up, that KP make this Job..????

Click and then Right-Click

Bring up KeePass and find the entry for the website you are trying to log into. In your browser (Firefox, Opera, etc) click in the username/email field to make it the active selection where the cursor is. Click back to KeePass, right-click the entry for that website and select Perform Auto-Type. KeePass will switch back to the last application that was open, type the username/email, hit tab, type the password and hit enter. (You can also use CTRL-V after selecting the entry in KeePass)

For additional info, check out KeePass' help files or online documentation.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
