XP on a USB

Don't know if this works:

Tell me if it does.

This, indeed, is a workable solution. The catch is that the computer you indeed to boot "Portable XP" on has to support booting from a USB device, and most current systems do not.

Yes, but

most computers support booting from a floppy, and I swear I saw a zip/iso/whatever that let the floppy redirect the boot (or something:?) to the USB.
I'll see if I can find it.

True...

But floppies are inherently unreliable. One small drop and you're pretty much dead in the water. But the even bigger problem is that so many computers now don't have floppy drives. My 2-year-old eMachines W2925 is one of them. (Unfortunately, it doesn't support USB boot either, so I'm up the creek without a paddle as far as portable operating systems go)

Yes, but

this version I saw included both a floppy and a CD/DVD version.
Yours must boot of CD/DVD, right? Otherwise how could you repair Windows/boot Linux/other stuff?

Yeah, mine supports CD/DVD boot. I just don't want to have to carry around a CD. They're kinda bulky to be really portable.
