I have just installed TB 3.1.7 Rev2. When I tried to run it I got this message:
Thunderbird could not install this item because "install.rdf" (provided by the item) is not well-formed or does not exist. Please contact the author about this problem.
I downloaded and installed again but I still got the same result.
What would the problem be please?
Paul
the file in question is part of some extension . It looks as if your drive might be kind of broken, loosing here and there something.
Here it simply means it can not properly install an extension during start up.
But also your xulrun problem might be of similar origin, flash drive getting somehow tired.
Are the mail folders physically still present? I mean do you find some files in the profile, mail which when opened in a text editor will look like collection of your mails?

Thanks
When I installed TB 3.1.7 Rev2 I copied what remained of the Profile folder of the disabled TB 3.1.4 (after the XU run issue), which included a few extensions.
I have now copied what remained of the Profile folder of the disabled TB 3.1.4 into a recently backed up version of TB 3.1.4, and it is working fine (less the Inboxes that I lost).
