Some of us had discussed this in IRC a few weeks ago, so I thought I'd put this up for anyone interested. Verizon has confirmed that FiOS won't be expanding to any new communities in 2011, the same 'on-hold' status as in all of 2010. So, if you don't have FiOS in your area yet, chances are you probably won't.

in coastal areas it would have cost them much much more to replace the aging and failing copper infastructure compaired with more inland areas. this is why they are bulying customers into getting FIOS in some areas where the copper lines are just way too degraded for even phone use.
I have been told that if i make another formal complaint with the City about my Verizon ADSL that they will terminate my service. they only wat then to get internet connectivity is to get FIOS or Cable. I call that bullying in the lightest of terms.
Verizon doesn't even service our area for DSL or other related "hi-speed" services. I suspect it's because of that aging and failing copper infrastructure. That leaves us with Time Warner Cable as the only option unless we want to go with Satelite and I'm not sure that I do. Oh the joys of being held over a barrel for services.
