I don't know if you all have heard, but Saturday, about 8 minutes after 10 AM, some guy went to a rally and tried to kill Gabrielle Giffords, a House representative (for those outside the U.S., just think of her as a government official representing the city).
So far, he's been unsuccessful, and she is slowly recovering despite being shot through the head. He did, however, manage to (randomly) kill 6 people, including a federal judge and a 9-year-old girl, as well as one of Gifford's clerks, and 3 others in their 70's.
The city sent probably half of their cops and sheriffs and even the FBI came. Musta been big.
And you know what? I live just down the street from where that happened on my way to school. And I pass by every day at the place where the rally happened.
What were the odds?
I'm an avid Catholic, and sometimes I just randomly talk to got about stuff I want. One of which was some big story to come to our town and make a big ruckus across the country (or world).
And I got my wish. I just wish it wasn't like this.
Just another news story about some random mentally disturbed individual unhappy with life and unfortunately cursed with chemically imbalanced and imperfect brain functioning. We all should have seen the signs but somehow missed it. I despair for the human race sometimes. The News depresses me more often than not (when it's not angering me).
Anyway, you have mail! In the form of some postings in TheWorld development thread. I know you're busy but just a heads up in case you get some down time. I've vowed to give this browser a little while longer to turn things around. I hope I can get to their forums soon because the Ad-Blocker is a major show-stopper at the moment IMHO.
Good luck with your studies. Keep watching the News!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts about this.
I know something like this happens a lot more often that we hear about it on the news. But have it happen in your own street is something different.
I hope this makes some more people aware of what can happen if people keep thinking in black and white.

I just remembered that she had visited our school in the fall (in November, I think) to do some campaigning and another time to talk to students in out government class.
I also found out this morning from my math teacher that a lady who actually works at my school (second paragraph) was the one who actually prevented more from possibly being killed.
The local news interviewed a swiss reporter at the hospital and he said this was the biggest news in Europe.
huh.
And the President of the United States is coming to town. No doubt with armed guards.
I've lived long enough to see several horrifying occurrences like this.
I know how you feel. It doesn't get any easier to see.
Some people just don't get how valuable life is.
