I have been downloading the apps from this site and converting them to work with my U3 device and will be posting all the u3p i have made here to share with everyone if you don't like it tuff I think its great to be able to use these apps with my U3 flash drive and thought others could use them too well will be posting soon.
NOTE: I will not be posting anything just enjoying the workings of this site and its comrades.

U3 is a very dead, closed format. No new drives are being made. And many of the apps here can not legally be repackaged for U3 (nearly all freeware, Firefox, OpenOffice.org, etc) as our permissions do not extend to 3rd parties and we have no interest in producing U3 apps anymore.

I'm not sure why you bothered to create an account here, complete with a picture, if your very first post basically is saying, "Hi, I'm going to break the rules and I don't care what you think".

Rather than converting them you can use them as is if you download this mini U3 app ( http://www.filefactory.com/file/b1h7653/n/PAMenu.U3P ) which adds the PortableApps Menu to the U3 menu.

If you made your apps to work for U3 using "Package Factory for U3", you can't distribute them because of a license restriction. So even though you can distribute some PortableApps, you can't do so in that manner.
I guess i won't post them here scene everyone here feels so strongly about me not doing so. and i didn't know that there was a u3 app or i would have just dled it and never said anything about it. also you can package the apps from here to work with u3. they work great for me and i am sorry to have started such an uprising lol never thought it would get that far.
U3 converter
Rather than distribute/share whole repackaged PA apps you could share HOW someone can repackage their PA apps for use on their U3 drives, preferably in an automated manner. Something along the lines of this approach would be helpful.

An even better option is to assist people with switching off of U3. There's no real reason to hang onto the platform anymore (except for, perhaps, the semi-hardware password protection), and nearly all of the apps are now dead and unsupported. If you're stuck with a couple of paid U3 apps that you have no upgrade path from, you can still use the PA.c Platform launched from U3 to run all the new, supported portable software from here.

I haven't tried it so I have no info on what it requires or how well it works but it does exist.

Interesting. I don't think that will actually work on 'any' Sandisk drive as the hardware within them has changed multiple times over the years. That's why some U3 drives couldn't be upgraded to Vista before. Some drives have hardware encryption abilities, but most do not. I don't think I'd be willing to strip my last antique U3 drive (at the risk of not being able to restore it) to try it, though.

one day they will become valuable! And since it does not take much space in my drawer, I keep it there so far.
I have also a DOS computer with 100Mb hard drive (yes soooo big) and was offered abt 4000$ recently. But I did no sell.
Oldtimer cars are also part of industrial culture, so are 7inch floppy drives and U3 sticks.

Why did u3 die? I mean they had a really good thing going, and even had a decent user base. What actually caused they system to go belly up? I'm not arguing for it, but have never really heard an explanation as to why they just totally failed.

Artificially locked to hardware. Only one manufacturer. High revenue share for commercial software. Publishers didn't buy in (see first 3 points). Technical issues throughout its life. Late releasing Vista compatible version. Late releasing Windows 7 compatible version. And there were some other issues that I can't discuss. As a result of all that, it never came anywhere close to our userbase or our download numbers in a given month despite being shipped on 10s of millions of drives.

system, working only on one manufacturers hardware, this is difficult in todays fast moving world. Even the commercial software companies want sell something to the world, not only to one single hardware platform.
If they were two hardware platforms only, one could try, but as there are so many manufacturers of flash controllers and so final products, one single hardware manufacturer is just one of many.
