Hello everyone,
Chris Morgan said here that
"For the individual apps, PortableApps\AppNamePortable\AppNamePortable.exe is what you need to launch. However, this doesn't replicate the environment set up by the Platform; the Platform adds some environment variables"
Does this mean that PortableApps users will be forced to use PortableApps menu to make application work ?
It's quite a big modification. By now, the menu was optionnal. I just run it from time to time to check for updates but I don't use it everyday.
If you plan to put some settings in common, it is more flexible to make applications look into the platform for this parameters instead of passing them from platform to applications.
Is it in PA.com plans to let people choose their menu ?
The PortableApps.com Launcher automatically calculates all the environment variables that the Platform would set up if it isn't there; however, it may not get them entirely correct, in especial for non-standard directory structures. Particularly, language switching is most likely to not work. The PortableApps.com Launcher is crafted to support running without the Platform as well as possible, so with newer apps this is rarely a problem; if the user selects a language in the app, or uses the Platform once, it should preserve the language setting.
I am a Christian and a developer and moderator here.

Even if it's not perfect (like any program !), it means a lot to me to know that it is not planned to make the menu required.
Thank you for this information.
