Hello
I've just noticed that one can now install Mozilla Firefox onto a USB drive.. this is different to before where you needed to have admin privileges.
I was wondering are there still differences between Firefox Portable and standard FF?
Thanks
I believe the only difference is that cache is disabled by default on Firefox Portable to help speed it up on USB's. (Well, that and the additional PortableApps.com bookmark)
Admin privileges aren't needed to install the regular Firefox. They're needed to install it in the program files folder.
Both Firefox 3.6.x and Firefox 4 Beta installers display a UAC prompt as soon as they unpack and start running. This is by design. And even if that somehow broke, just installing FF itself to a flash drive doesn't make it portable. Any more than copying the Firefox folder out of Program Files makes it portable.

Forgive my ignorance, but what does make it portable? Is it the fact that it runs on a large range of portable devices?
Firefox store it's settings under C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox, so, if you only copy to your portable device the files under Program Files and execute it, Firefox will leave a lot of files behind and you'll not carry your settings with you.
FirefoxPortable takes care that NOTHING is left behind when you close Firefox, ALL settings will be saved under Data folder of the portable device.
That's the main difference between Firefox and FirefoxPortable.
