By scan do mean antimalware? We have ClamWin and SpyBot S&D on the app page. If you mean document scanning then it's not going to happen. It just isn't possible. You'd need admin rights, drivers for each specific model you might encounter, a gigantic piece of free software with a license that allows distribution (unlikely)...
If you plug into a computer with a scanner attached and TWAIN drivers already installed, you can use IrfanView portable to do your scans; click File->Aquire/Batch Scanning.
if you connect a scanner, also the scanner specific driver will be installed or configured, many will be in windows present, but still windows will ask then for admin rights for that.
I am scanning regularly with irfan, but any scanner old or new I had to run at least the config via some of the inf.
The only scanner which works at any time without any drivers to be installed is the canon P150 on my side so far.
Please help support us by making a donation so we can keep bringing you awesome free software. We accept credit card, wire transfer, PayPal, cryptocurrency, and more.
i think we have adware scanning and antivirus scanning apps in the list but
Xray and RADAR scanning apps are not availble (needs non free hardware installed)

True, much like a printer. I guess I just assume most of the time when a scanner is installed it's fixed (non-portable) hardware, ready to use.
