Dead/Outdated Software Available on Applications Page

I was noticing some bad behavior with the WinWget program available from the main applications page (https://portableapps.com/apps). After looking at the sourceforge website, it was immediately obvious that no one has been developing the software for the past 5 years. One of the bugs was the same problem I was having and it has been open for a year and a half.

I appreciate the idea of having a new app a day and thank the developers for their efforts, but of course that can't come at the price of quality. In my opinion all applications that are available from the main page should be projects that are actively maintained. Maybe making another category called unsupported or not maintained applications could be used for these projects.

Just my two cents. I am curious what others think. I feel the main applications page should be programs that you would suggest to your computer illiterate friend and I wouldn't suggest they use something which is not maintained.

Thanks,

John

If the base app stays unmaintained long enough, it will likely be removed from the app directory, but hopefully someone who can program in Delphi will answer this Call for a WinWGet Developer

"Maintained"

We have many software apps that are not actively maintained in the base app itself (meaning they are no longer under active development). That's just fine provided they work well. MPlayer on Windows was an exception, for instance, because they weren't producing any more stable Windows builds, so it was pulled in favor of SMPlayer. WinWGet is another exception as Windows 7 broke previously-working software. We put out a call for developers in January and if we don't get one shortly, we'll simply retire the app and remove it from the directory. We haven't bothered updating the app package to the later formats because we haven't been encouraging new users to use it.

Again, we do not make the apps themselves, so we generally do not fix bugs in the app itself. And WinWGet Portable's issue is within WinWGet itself due to a change in Windows 7. We don't support the app itself, just the portable package. We put out a call for a dev to update it, if one does not, the app will be retired.

In order to be listed in the app directory, software must support Windows XP through Windows 7. As WinWGet Portable came out long before Windows 7, it's just not been removed yet as we were hopeful to get someone to take it over. As of now, it looks like no one will. We won't be having an unmaintained section, we'll simply be removing it.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
