As long as all our local installation of Firefox are of version 3.5
the Firefox Portable should be so as well.
But latest available Portable 3.5 is 3.5.15, a vulnerable version.
All our local Firefox installations are of 3.5.17, the latest available.
This is also the current valid sub-version of 3.5.

3.5.x was only officially supported by Mozilla through August 2010. The 3.5.16 release and yet-to-be-released 3.5.17 release are fluke updates, and a bit of a surprise. Likely, 3.5.17 will be a 'final' release, meaning that 3.5.x becomes instantly unsupported/dead with that release and all users should be upgrading to 3.6.x, anyway.
We'll likely do a postmortem 3.5.17 FirefoxPortableLegacy35 (AppID) release for web developers to test hold-out users pretty soon after 3.5.17. You will be able to use that to upgrade your old FFP install (you'll just need to manually change the directory). I'd highly suggest upgrading to 3.6.x, though. 4.0 is due out in the next couple weeks and there's no way Mozilla is going to do any more 3.5.x updates after it is.

Pardon, I should be talking about 3.5.16. That one is the latest one. 3.5.17 might appear soon.
No chance to get 3.5.16 Portable by taking the already installed 3.5.15 Portable and appropriate files from local 3.5.16 installation?
Please do not offer me the 4.0 version because that one still not released. Current patched version needed immediately, not after the 4.0 comes.
Please do not offer me 3.6 version. Who can accept these efforts if 4.0 will be pending for installation soon?
I would highly, highly recommend against going from 3.5 to 4.0. You should upgrade from 3.5 to 3.6 first. Otherwise, certain elements of your settings and profile may not upgrade properly.
Again, 3.5.x has been considered unsupported for 6 months now. 3.5.17 does not exist yet. 3.5.16 is the current 3.5.x release. 3.5.17 should come out in conjunction with 3.6.14 at which point 3.5.17 will be officially unsupported by Mozilla and not receive further updates (no security updates either). Auto-updating from 3.5.x to 4.0 will not be supported by the local version of Firefox to my knowledge, so upgrading from the portable version of 3.5.x to 4.0 directly will not be recommended either.
As I mentioned, I will be producing a post-mortem release of 3.5.17 soon after release as FirefoxPortableLegacy35. You will be able to upgrade your existing FirefoxPortable 3.5.x install to this if you would like to stick with the unsupported 3.5.x release but I would highly suggest just upgrading to 3.6.x now.

*Please* try the upgrade to 3.6.x now. You can make a copy of your FirefoxPortable folder to FirefoxPortableBackup first, then don't touch the FirefoxPortableBackup folder and be sure not to run it. Run the 3.6.x installer and point it to the FirefoxPortable folder and upgrade it. Then fire up Firefox and let it update any extensions that need updating. Try it and ensure all is well. 3.5 to 3.6 is not a huge jump UI-wise, so most extensions work without even updating.
If it fails, just delete FirefoxPortable and rename FirefoxPortableBackup to FirefoxPortable and you're right back where you were.
The 3.5.x will likely be rendered insecure far before 4.0.2 or 4.0.3 is released. And you may simply be unable to upgrade directly from 3.5.x to 4.0. I don't want to see you get stuck in a lurch because you're trying to be cautious. Please give it a try, there's no risk as long as you back it up first.
