Camstudio 2.0 errors

Hello,

i am ready to pay / donate.

At first, let me tell you some errors, that will occur by using this very good programm.

It is possible to make videos from all i need.

It is possible to select audio from microphone.

But not from speaker. So, on my windows XP PC (Notebook) it is not possible, die record the audio from that what comes outside of the speaker.

My PC uses (perheps) a very simple soundcard. Is this the reason.

This is the error;
WaveOutGetSelectControl() failt.

And an other tip; i use the newest 2.0 Version of this great programm. If i look on "about", there is an link to an website. But the link is not correct.

Thank you.

Jürgen from BMMH, Germany

Problem with CamStudio

Hi BMMH,

It seems that the problem your having is not with CamStudioPortable, rather it's a problem with the base app, CamStudio. You will need to get in contact with the developers either through their support forum or through email for more help.

Have you searched the CamStudio Support Forum?

Hi, BMMH,
Please know that you Don't need to keep offering to pay, to donate in order to get help. If you want to donate, great! But it does not change how much help we can give. Here, help comes from both developers and users who try to help everyone that has a problem with the apps here.
However, we can only help with what we know. CamStudio is made by Nick Smith (in the CamStudio Support Forums, he's NickTheGeek), but here at PortableApps, all the developers do is to take that app and make it portable. So, if this is behavior that only happens in the Portable version but not the original, then the devs here are more able to help.

I searched the CamStudio Support Forum for "recording video", and found this:
http://camstudio.org/forum/comments.php?DiscussionID=273&page=1#Item_0

That may be helpful.
But I need to tell you, I've had problems with other applications recording a video of a video, and I think it may have to do with the nature of video itself.

A video is actually a series of still images that change very quickly, usually about every 1/30 of a second. Actual framerates vary, depending on the video format, and the choices of the person recording. If CamStudio's recording framerate does not match the video framerate, you could get some ugly results.

I hope that the comments on the CamStudio Support Forums are helpful. You will notice on the site that the user tbritton is a "CamStudio Oracle", and has quite a lot of good information. You can also look at tbritton's homepage, http://screencasttutorial.org/

Good luck.

I made this half-pony, half-monkey monster to please you.

Hey, thanks solanus

So BMMH, it looks like all you might need to do to fix this problem is go into "...\CamStudioPortable\App\CamStudio", right-click on Recorder.exe, check "Disable visual themes," as mentioned in by the first link solanus posted, and see if that works for you. I'm not sure if this will work, though, as you change PCs, but feel free to try.

That sometimes depends of the

That sometimes depends of the way how the video is rendered. DirectShow sometimes may be a hindrance. I don't know what portions Camstudio can record (it fails at recording game graphics, too, for the same reason). Turning of hardware acceleration may help, but only, if the video can be rendered by the specific program without it. Some more information would help here.
Camstudio is not originally supposed for recording video, sometimes it works, but often not. It is not a simple task though, you have to synchronize framerates for instance.

If your problem with recording sound still exists, it would be helpful to know, what you have done and what specific hardware you use. The possibilities vary from "sound recording disabled" in CamStudio to some hardware issue...
The soundcard (especially the driver) has to be able to record stereomix or an equivalent. On many notebooks that is simply not possible due to driver restrictions - on mine, too (sigmatel chipset). You still could use a patch cable from the line out to line in/microphone.

If you need help in german, feel free to ask, but it narrows the probable userbase...
