Problem when trying to install Google Chrome Extensions

I do not remember what I was messing around with before this started happening, but I am not able to install Google Chrome Extensions any more. I get this error dialogue when I try (CTRL+C):

Could not create directory for unzipping: D:1\COMMAND\PortableApps\GoogleChromePortable\Data\profile\Temp\scoped_dir_10957\CRX_INSTALL

My Portable apps are currently on a USB flash drive with the O: drive letter, residing in the directory called COMMAND.

So why is it trying to install to D:1\ instead of O:\ now?

EDIT: Okay I can see that others are getting the same problem. It is not specific to the portable version and there does not seem to be a fix. What a downer. https://portableapps.com/node/25824

Does anybody know how to extract and install Chrome extensions manually?
