Forgot to close app before pulling out the USB stick, now FFP doesn't seem to run at all.

Is there any way I can salvage some data, or do I need to go back to my last backup of it? My USB Stick still appears to work, it's just that Firefox Portable is now not working on any computer I've plugged the USB Stick into (2 tried so far). Even Safe Mode doesn't seem to work.

Best regards,
Steven.

Might work

First, back up what is left of the FirefoxPortable installation (copy it somewhere). Then download the latest version of FirefoxPortable (which was put online last night). Install it OVER the existing non-working FirefoxPortable installation. Try it out.

Installing over the existing installation will refresh all of the program files but leaves your data files intact. Hopefully they are OK, and everything will work. If the data files have been damaged during the accident, there's a lot more manual work to do. It is much easier if you have a current backup of at least your profile folder.

Thanks, that worked! =)

Thanks, that fixed my FirefoxPortable installation. I'll make sure I back up by files more regularly from now on! Smile

Best regards,
Steven.

Great!

Happy to hear that it worked for you.

Of course "regular backups" is the mantra of any experienced computer person. You can use SkyDrive or other online services, many for free. If that doesn't appeal to you, at least back up to media other than your USB stick. You'll need it when you lose the stick!

All you need to back up is the "profile" folder. That's what makes the installation yours. You can do a clean program install anywhere, copy the contents of your profile folder into that location, and be up and running right away.
