I just started using Firefox 4 Portable for testing, and I notice that the icons for it combine on the taskbar, which doesn't happen with the Fx3 icons. Why? what change in PAF/Fx causes this? any "fix"? (It's going to be a real pain to have to open the preview every time to select the instance I want instead of just clicking on it in the taskbar.)

This is a new feature in Firefox 4. If you notice, Internet Explorer on does it too. You can disable it by going into the "Options" window and unchecking "Show tab previews in the Windows taskbar" in the "Tabs" tab.
That option is unchecked by default, which is how I've left it. The preview displays the active tab(s) for any/all instances of Firefox 4 (as opposed to all tabs for each(/all) instance(s) of Firefox 4). I'm not saying the feature itself couldn't be responsible for this undesired behavior, but I hope it shouldn't be--I don't want all instances of Firefox 4 being treated like they're "one".
