I am getting the following error once I have clicked on compare.
Error reading from synchronization database:
"D:\PortableApps\sync.ffs_db"
Should it be saving a database outside of the FreeFileSyncPortable directory path, is there a setting I can change to make it save the ffs_db somewhere else by default?
It will save those files in every folder you sync if you use the "Synchronization settings/Automatic" variant (which is the app's default I see).
I don't know why you're getting the error (maybe the file doesn't exist or is corrupt for some reason?) although I can't reproduce it to be honest.
Personally, I use the "Mirror" variant with deletion handling as "Versioning" and those files are never created. The choice is yours though, depending on your needs.
EDIT: I think I know what's happened. There was a change of format for the *.ffs* files at v3.17. I'm guessing you last backed up your PortableApps folder using an earlier version. The .ffs_gui and *.ffs_batch ones saved in the Data folder I updated on upgrade but not anything outside the main directory. I believe the sync files are recreated automatically if missing so maybe the answer is to delete them both (source and destination) although you'd be wise to verify that first. Some info here.
FreeFileSync works fine, so FreeFileSync should be published as normal (not beta) portable app.
Then FreeFileSync can be downloaded and updated via the portable apps platform.
Much more comfortable than searching for it manually here in the PortableApps.com test applications pages.

Deleting the files work, I no longer have the error and everything seems fine.
