I had a little issue come up when I installed one of the beta (test) versions of Firefox 4. I'm running all apps installed locally in C:\PortableApps on my hard drive and whenever I closed the test/beta version of Firefox, OpenOffice Portable would open. I assumed it was a bug and would be fixed in the Firefox final release. Firefox 3 never did this. When the final came out, I made a copy for obvious reasons, renamed it, leaving it zipped right beside Firefox 3 and the updated 3 to 4 with the final release. After updating 3 to 4, the issue resumed in Firefox 4 final. I don't use OpenOffice that much, so deleting OpenOffice solved my issues. I'm just posting this as an F.Y.I. maybe it'll help someone else out, if they are having the same problem.

The launcher can't do this. It must be an addon or some weird configuration in Firefox itself.

Possibly.... but I kept the same ones that were in vers. 3. The ones in the test vers. were slightly different, ones that weren't updated to 4 were incompatible. The update of the primary vers. of Firefox Portable, was just updating it from 3 to 4, there were no extenions added, except for the normal updating of those from AMO.
