Hello:
I'm trying to get a feel of Firefox 4 before actually installing it by using the Mozilla Firefox Portable Edition from PortableApps via a removable USB flashtick drive.
I still have Firefox 3.6.16 installed on my hard drive, and I never use the two versions concurrently.
A major problem I'm having with Firefox 4.0 is the all-too-frequent disappearance of customized toolbars. I have two such toolbars configured. One on top, with Firefox functions such as bookmarks, history , web-clipper, etc... I've also populated the Add-on Bar on the bottom with similar icons such as clear cache, no script,etc...
Approximately once daily, I lose all my toolbars. Seems to happen when I'm rearranging the icons on the toolbars to get a more optimal interface. I fix the situation by restarting in Safe Mode with all add-ons disabled. I need to reset it to "Reset Toolbars and Controls". I then get my Bookmarks Toolbar back with all the previous links and their icons, but the Customized Toolbar I've created directly below the Navigation Bar needs to be recreated from start. Also , the icons I've placed in the Add-on bar below need to be restored.
What might be causing these frequent disappearances of the toolbars? This does not happen with Firefox 3.6 which is currently installed to my hard drive.
Might this be my use of the Portable edition of Firefox 4?
Or is it more likely some add-on I'm using?
This rarely happens in Firefox 3.6, and almost all of the add-ons I use in Firefox 4 are also used with Firefox 3.6.
How would you suggest I approach troubleshooting this?
I post a list of add-ons now used with Firefox 4.0
Thanks in advance:
Eliuri

Is this the same bug as the one that causes half of my extensions to need restarting?
Since many of them affect my toolbars, that is the first place I notice.
It seemed to be related to using FirefoxPortable from different paths. As in on computer A the path is e:\firefox and on computer B the path is c:\dropbox\firefox
It sounds like this might be similar.

Hi Jeremiah:
If I understand you correctly, it's not the same bug. I run Firefox Portable from one directory only and only on my own PC. It's a Firefox Portable folder I created on my USB Flash Drive.
My major question here is:
Are these disappearances of custom toolbars a result of my using Firefox Portable, or is it some problematic extension/theme. Alternatively, perhaps it's that Firefox 4.0 simply doesn't work right on my PC?
If it's merely a result of using Firefox Portable, I'd consider upgrading from Firefox 3.6 to Firefox 4.0 on my hard drive without using Firefox Portable

I have the same problem, my custom toolbar setting dissapear after each restart.
I found this: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Toolbar_customizations_reset_on_startup
But it does not help to delit the file localstore.rdf for me.
Perhaps there is some glitch in the portable version?

Hello Ametz:
Does this happen to you with the non-portable edition of Firefox 4.0 as well?
I'm trying to sort out if this is primarily a Portable Apps issue or a Firefox 4 issue.

I don't know, i only use portable version of FF.
