thunderbird in wine ubuntu

Since some recent updates of ubuntu 10.10 , the thunderbird portable refuses to run properly in wine. It used to work fine, but now it says that it can not run on read only media and copies the TB to hard drive first.
Installed is TB on usb flash stick, so there should be no problem with writing and when I try to find about rights, it tells me the rights are unknown which is of course the problem.

Did someone observe the same?

i cant get anything to run in wine under ubuntu 10.10

this stupid thing about not being able to change the permissions to execute is pissing me off.

i have tried everything.
(in a root terminal as i HATE typing sudo every f*cking time)

chmod +x /c:drive/programfiles/blizzard/starcraft/starcraft.exe

gksu nautilus
going to folder and ganging the permissions via right clicking but the box doesnt stay marked.

now whats annoying is Ubuntu thinks m3u files are executable binary files. this pisses me off hardcore.
