Can't copy Firefox Portable from C to anywhere!

Hi!

I have installed Firefox Portable 3.6.13 to the C section of my computer yesterday, and after having invested 5 (FIVE!!) hours in getting all my add-ons and settings installed therein which I used in my older version of Firefox (installed version, not portable), I wanted to copy my new FFP to another drive to save the present state in case something happens, and also so that I have all my add-ons and settings saved for the next update.
BUT: I can't copy it. It copies about 40% percent of the programme, then appears a message that it cannot read a file or folder starting with "p" (name too long to give me the entire name) in C:\Programme\Mozilla Firefox Portable\Firefox Portable\Data\p [that is all it gives me]. Packing instead of copying doesn't work either. Any idea how I get that programme to D or my external harddrive or a USB stick?

Answer in German would be preferred as my operating system and most of my programmes are in German and I have really NO clue of the English names of the operating commands and parts of my computer.

Thanks in advance!

Mehrere Ursachen:

Mehrere Ursachen:

english (short version):
different causes:

  1. C:\Programme\ (= C:\Program Files in german) has issues generally and is unsupported
  2. Firefox Portable still running? Or a plugin (s. 3)
  3. "p" may be plugins or profile. Any plugins installed? Flash?
  4. HD error? => checkdisk

More Information would be helpful (OS, rights...)

possible soultions:

  • Restart Windows to ensure firefox files are not locked.
  • checkdisk
  • unstoppable copier, post, what hung, possibly use unlocker.

moving it within computer ...

may work first. Try moving it to another location on your computer? It looks like it's stuck on the profile or plugins, the p in that folder?
C:\Programme does that mean it is in the Program File Folder? Maybe move it directly to C:\Mozilla Firefox Portable, then to your usb?

Don't be an uberPr∅. They are stinky.

adons

@nini

don't be surprised, when even after successful copying of the firefox portable to other location, half or more of your addons will not work.
This is normal and many addons need to be reinstalled after a move.

Portable apps are not designed to be copy/pasted , they survive a change in drive letter but if the path changes, unpredictable results are to be expected.
Therefore set up all portable apps in the position you are going to use them later.

So install the firefox portable to your usb device and install all the extension there too.
