the md5 sums are already available on each app page in the Download Details part of it titled md5 hash (for the geeks):

is there a way that the current stable release could have the md5sum listed as part of the list on the apps directory??
Most people have no need of MD5s, so it's complete noise to them. The MD5s are automatically used by the updater and upcoming app directory, which is their primary purpose.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
