Trouble opening portable oo docs w/ oo 1.1.3 on Debian Linux

I have been using portable oo 2.0.2 on my USB flash drive (work computer running windows) to create documents and save them on the flash drive. I have then tried to open those same documents on my home desktop that is running Debian Linux. The Debian distro, Sarge, came with oo 1.1.3 included in distro. When I use the oo installed with the Linux to open the documents they open but the text is not visible, ie; the page appears blank. I have created documents with the oo 1.1.3 that came with the linux and saved them to the flash drive and then opened them using portable oo with no problems. Can anyone advise if this is a problem that is related to the difference in the versions of oo (1.1.3 can't open 2.0.2)? I have tried to, "apt get upgrade" w/c returns that I have the most recent version for Debian.
Any help is appreciated as I enjoy using the app.

File Formats

1.1.3 is from back in October 2004, before the OpenDocument format existed. It's also not the final version in the 1.1.x line. That would be 1.1.5 from September 2005 (and the later security patch in July 2006).

By default, OO 2.0.x saves in OpenDocument formats, which are unsupported by 1.1.3. Try saving to OpenOffice Document Text (sxw) within 2.0. It should be compatible with 1.1.3, unless it is some bugs in the 1.1.3 that is keeping it from displaying.

I'd also suggest upgrading to 2.0. The 1.1.x series is quite old and leaves a lot to be desired compared to newer releases. Even if you stick with 1.1.x, at least upgrade to 1.1.5 with the security patch. Not sure why it isn't showing up in Debian Sarge apt get. I think it should. I can't say for sure as I test under Ubuntu.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Thank you

Thank you for confirming my suspicions. Now that I'm certain of the problem will just need to work on getting the upgrade installed. Once again thank you for a great app.
