I have found a way add KeyScrambler Personal to Firefox portable 5.0 and earlier. But am not sure how effective it is being that it is not installed at the Operating Software level (requiring a reboot and having kernel access) and is only manually installed at the Browser level.
I simply drag and dropped the KeyScrambler_Setup.exe installer (Version: 2.8.1 http://download.cnet.com/KeyScrambler-Personal/3000-2144_4-10571274.html... ) into Universal Extractor ( http://legroom.net/scripts/download.php?file=uniextract161 ) Pasted the extracted folder into the Firefox portable folder (although you can put this anywhere you like) Then opened Firefox Portable 5.0 and in the Add-ons drop down menu (next to the search bar) selected Install add-on from file - navigated to the folder Universal Extractor had made and selected the file named keyscrambler.xpi (This is similar to the way KeyScrambler used to be manually installed into Firefox)
So ~ KeyScrambler appears to be working ~ except if I am correct and it doesn't actually have kernel access when added to Firefox this way I cannot say if it is protecting against Keyloggers as effectively as when it is installed in the normal manner which requires a reboot and is installed at the Operating Software level.
One other thing ~ I have found that when logging into Gmail my password is rejected as incorrect unless I turn off KeyScrambler while logging on to Gmail, after which I turn it back on. (When KeyScrambler Personal is installed in the normal manner with regular Firefox {not Portable} this glitch when logging into Gmail does not occur and Gmail accepts the password with KeyScrambler turned on)
As I said it appears to be working, as even right now as I type this the popup is displaying gobbledygook. I suspect it may be offering some protection, but if and how much I haven't a clue.
In summary, it is a very simple matter to add KeyScramber Personal to Firefox Portable ~ But how effective at protecting against Keyloggers it is I don't know.
Anyone have any ideas, knowledge, or even speculation to offer as to this subject?
Thanks in advance for any helpful replies.
I get an error message:
KeyScrambler encryption module installer is missing.
Please download it at: http://www.qfxsoftware.com and try again.
to uninstall KeyScrambler, go to "Tools -> Add-ons" ,
select KeyScrambler and click "Uninstall".
I'll try again.
Please tell me if you know what I am doing wrong.
I just added to FX 10.0 portable using your method, Moroni, and it works just like it does on my desktop. The only question is, does it actually protect? Is there a way to determine whether or not it is scrambling the information so that a keylogger program can't read what's typed?
Thanks,
RReed
