If I have TBP open and I click on a mailto link, a new message window opens as it should with the To: field populated as one would expect. However, if TBP is closed, when the new message window pops up, I'm hit with the "New Account Wizard" even though I have default accounts defined.
Anyone have any ideas or experiencing this?

You've associated thunderbird.exe with the mailto protocol, rather than ThunderbirdPortable.exe. If it runs thunderbird.exe directly it won't be portable.
