I don't know what is going on with uTorrentPortable these days..
but the past 2 releases have been leaving trash all over my computer ..
Here's a list for the latest build; i use this in CCleaner to clean up after every usage:

If you see all those including the backups, then uTorrent is still running in the background, probably in the system tray. Or possibly has hung. Once utorrent.exe closes, those keys are all fixed.
These issues were introduced in the original 3.0 release and fixed in the build 25440 release. If you let uTorrent update itself, you wouldn't have gotten the fix.

Every attempt to update utorrent (via PA Updater) results in The downloaded copy of UTorrentPortable is not valid and can not be installed. This could be due to ....

Just clean up IE's cache.

It appears as if the original utorrent.exe that the PA installer needs from http://download.uttorent.com to complete the installation is corrupt, therefore never downloads properly. Unfortunately, cleaning the IE cache does not solve this.
as always, should any of the above seem greek to you, don't worry; it probably is...
Same here, cleared cashe, same result.
I get "server error 502" on downloading utorrent half way through the installation.
Same deal here - the address is rather generic, maybe the installer/updater looks for a certain file (or hash) and actually just gets a newer build from the site, resulting in the error?
The file is not verified exactly in order to avoid this kind of issue.
I've just installed it fine without using the updater, but when using it, it complains the file is corrupt.
