Google Chrome build 13 lags.....

Hi guys, i'm new here. There isn't a Google Chrome section (which I don't understand why not) so I'll just post my question here.

I've been using Google Chrome portable for a long time now, and I've never had a problem with it. However recently there's a new update, where they updated from build 12 to build 13. So after I updated my portable version to build 13, I've noticed it started to run a lot slower. No matter which site I go to, it takes long to load, and it seems to lag and use up a lot of system resources as my CPU spikes up like crazy. I usually have about 10 tabs opened, and never more than 20. I tried to close all the tabs down to about 5 or 6 and it's still the same.

I checked my extensions, none of them could've caused this conflict either. I've never had this problem with build 12, so it must be something wrong with build 13.......The thing is, the normal desktop version of Google Chrome build 13 runs fine. It's just the portable that's having problems.

I switched back to build 12 as I luckily kept a backup of the entire folder, and it works fine for me. So ya I dunno what's the deal with build 13 right now, I looked at all the new options introduced in 13 and turned them off and it's still the same....

What OS?

I'm on XP. Chrome 13 Portable runs about the same as 12 on my end.

I'm going to bet one of your extensions is causing the problem. Any extensions that you have on Chrome Portable that you don't have on the local install?

Hi guys, thanks for the

Hi guys, thanks for the replies.

I use Windows 7 Ultimate x86, and never had any problems with any of the previous builds of Google Chrome, whether it's Desktop or Portable, both work fine for me. I'm pretty sure it's got nothing to do with the OS though, since Windows 7 runs smooth as butter, and Google Chrome works great on it no matter what PC I use. I'm pretty sure there's something wrong with the portable version because I have 3 computers at home (my sister and parents both use one) and I also have a laptop myself. I install Google Chrome on their PCs for them, and they liked it to the point that they asked if they could carry their data with them to use it at work or at UNI, so I helped them install Google Chrome portable where they could take it on their USB.

The thing is, both my sister and my parents also said there's a lag and slow page loading when they used the new build 13 version. I myself have this problem on my own computer and laptop, as well as on UNI computers.

I have tried to download and re-install Google Chrome from a new installation file, it installs fine but i'm having the same problems.....

Lastly, I use the exact same amount of extensions that I do on my desktop version, and same for my portable version. In fact, I even disabled all the extensions in my portable version and same problem still there....

Clean install

Can you reinstall a copy of Chrome Portable onto your desktop or someplace you don't have another copy of it? (i.e. if you have E:\PortableApps\GoogleChromePortable don't install over it, rather E:\GoogleChromePortable or someplace else.)

And then try running it.

Ya I actually tried that

Ya I actually tried that already, it works but that's probably because I only have 2 tabs opened, with completely zero extensions installed......if I have to test this properly, then it'll take up a lot of time since I have to install my extensions one by one, and configure the settings as well.....

anyway, i've also tried to install to a new folder, and then copy all the files and overwrite my old files. Still, I get the same problem.

I'd say extensions, then

If you said it works, then I think it's a problem with the an addon that's causing the problem. However you said that disabling all the extensions did nothing, so it might be a settings problem, too.

I don't know what to tell you. Maybe try resetting all the options back to "(recommended)" in your main installation of Chrome Portable as a last ditch effort. Pardon You can also list your addons if you'd like so we can try them on our end.
