Importing favourites from IE7

When I try to import favourites from IE7 I get an error in Firefox Portable 6.0:
"A script on the page may be busy or it may have stopped responding - script:chrome://browser/content/browser.js:3508"

In an attempt to solve this problem I deleted all the Firefox folders from my flash drive, downloaded FirefoxPortable_6.0.1_English.paf.exe to the desktop from the link on portableapps.com and reinstalled Firefox Portable 6.0 on the flash drive. The problem remained.

I am using Windows XP Home on my desktop computer.

Any help would be appreciated.

What steps have you taken to transfer the info?

Link: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Import_bookmarks

Follow steps under the "From Internet Explorer" section. Basically, export from Internet Explorer and then import the resulting file into Firefox using the Bookmarks Manager (Start FirefoxPortable, Firefox button, Bookmarks, Show All Bookmarks, Import and Export).

If that doesn't work, please give more detail about the steps as you did them, and the results. That should help us help you.

importing bookmarks from IE7

That worked.
Thanks for your help.

To update the imported favourites should I just repeat the above or do I need to first delete the bookmarks in Firefox Portable? If so how do I do that.

Update?

What do you mean by "update" ??

I'm not sure what you want, so I can't tell you how to proceed.

If you are looking to keep your bookmarks that you've updated in IE syncronized (to also update in FirefoxPortable), then you should explore that kind of program. Otherwise, yes, you could take the updated favorites from IE, delete the FirefoxPortable bookmarks, and then import into FirefoxPortable again. You'd lose FirefoxPortable bookmark history, but I suppose it wouldn't be earth shattering. Conversely, you could just import the updated favorites from IE and then delete the duplicates that result in FirefoxPortable.

All in all, it doesn't seem like something I'd want to do very often (either method).

Updating bookmarks in Firefox

The first method you describe would be fine for what I want. I only use Firefox Portable occasionally when I am away from home. I will delete and re-import from IE7 before I go.

I back up the IE favorites weekly so I always have a bookmark.htm file in My Documents.

Thank you for your help in sorting out my problem.
I will make a donation to PortableApps.com

do it on hard drive

meanwhile this problem seems to come up more often.

I am not sure how you do try to import the bookmarks, but it seems to me that you are using some addon for that which does not work well over usb connection.

Try

copy the firefox to some place on your hard drive, root is fine

then do all the operation with addons and import of bookmarks

then copy the whole firefox portable folder back to the usb drive

go to addons - extensions and run check for updates

then all should work
