I was wondering if anyone knew how to make the download folder location for chrome change drive letters. I download things often and don't like having to tell it where to download it every time or copy from the computer to my flash drive.
That would require a rewrite/addition of code to the GCP launcher, as the downloads folder is in My Documents\Downloads, not anywhere the launcher monitors.
The download folder can be changed(ie. to e:documents\downloads) in chrome, couldn't the launcher just change the drive letter in the file like it does with the rest of the files?
That doesn't sound to hard to me.(sorry if I'm wrong)
Sorry about the late reply, I didn't realize that I wasn't subscribed.
-Hello
If I read the original question correctly you can do this via chrome, click the wrench then choose options, from there choose "under the hood" once in that window scroll down to where you see downloads and place a check mark into the box "Ask me where to save each file before downloading" then when ever you download a file you can point it to wherever you want it to go

That is true but not quite the way I was Thinking. I was thinking just to change the drive letter if it was set to the portable drive.(same folder, different drive letter)
-Hello
the portable drive letter change depending on the computer you were on?

Yes.
-Hello
what if you decided to change the folder? IMHO there are too many variables for this to work

The path doesn't matter because paths don't change on a Flash Drive in-between computers, but drive letters do!
-Hello
what would need to be changed but not sure how to do it, would require a file write to a file called preferences located in the data\profile folder ( or at least that is where it is when not being run) Since this is a custom launcher not even sure where to begin, it does seem doable with a filewrite and using the last location vs the current location though

Is Dan Buggin still supporting this? I could add the drive replace, but not if the original developer is here to do it.
And BTW I apparently was incorrect in the comment below I incorrectly stated John was the developer my apologies to Dan

I looked at ChromePortable's source file(GoogleChromePortable.nsi) and it appears starting at line 483 The Launcher Opens and scans the Preferences file. However, I do not know what it is looking for or what it changes. If I was to change it myself (once I learned how) I am guessing that is probably where the changes would be made.
-Hello
if it was just for you I believe you could just edit the preferences file and possible change the drive letter to a variable like \\ or something. It would be a lot easier if it was in a PAL format than in custom, however I am sure that here is a reason for it being custom. I think the best person to deal with/ help resolve/ offer incite to it would be John T Haller the developer since it is indeed his app and his custom launcher

I think (just a guess) that googlechrome portable is custom so it can do portable passwords and that. Thanks for the guidance. I'm am not extremely familiar with the communication on this site, Is there a way I can ask/post/chat directly?(Dan)
