In case I forget my USB ...

I am using Firefox Portable with Lastpass (a password manager) installed. I carry it around on a USB key and use it on various public computers. I've noticed that when I plug in the USB and open Firefox, I am still logged in to at least some of the sites I was using the previous time - including Lastpass. This seems to mean that if I forgot my USB somewhere, someone who picked it up could get into my Lastpass account and by extension any other accounts that I have stored on Lastpass.

This may sound like a question about Lastpass but it's actually a question about Firefox Portable - I want to make it so that it will require me to relogin to any sites I was using previously each time I close Firefox and re-open it. I notice Firefox has an option that requires you to relogin to sites after a designated time period, but that's not what I want - I want the relogin to be required whenever I've quit from Firefox, regardless of how much time has passed. Any idea how to do this?

Saved Session

What you're looking at is a saved session. By default, Firefox is set to resume your previous session when you start it again. Just change it to show your homepage instead. It's on the General tab in Options.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Hi, thanks for your reply!

Hi, thanks for your reply! However, that doesn't solve the problem I described. Even if Firefox doesn't open the sites in question by default, if someone types them into the address bar, they will still be able to open my accounts without being asked to relogin. I just verified this with my gmail account for example. Even though Firefox opens up as a blank page, if I was previously logged in to gmail and someone opens up gmail it will still be logged in.

Saved Passwords

You may also have Firefox set to remember passwords, as well as Lastpass.
Try this:

  1. Go to the options menu.
  2. Click on the "security" option
  3. Uncheck the box for "Remember passwords for sites"

If this solves your problem, that's all you need to do.

Thanks for your reply!

Thanks for your reply! However, I already had the remember passwords option disabled, unfortunately I am still having the same problem.

Your problem is with cookies.

Your problem is with cookies. Web sites store them to remember your user session. Most like GMail, have an option to "Stay Signed In", that you would check to stay logged in for two weeks.

Firefox however, has the option to automatically delete its settings when it closes. What we have to do is set Firefox to clear cookies when you close your browser. To do this, hit the Firefox Button, and go to Options (Tools -> Options when you have the menubar enabled). From there, hit the "Privacy" tab, and select "Use custom settings for history" under "History".

After that, check "Clear history when Firefox closes" and then go over to the right and open the settings menu. Check "Cookies" under "History" in the new window that pops-up and you should be good to go Smile

Let me know if you have any trouble with this, and welcome to PortableApps.com Smile

TrueCrypt

Use TrueCrypt or some encyption software to encypt the whole disk. Anyone who don't know the password can't acess anything. I think this is the only safe way.
